OK so we’re not actually there, but Fresh Air Production have made all the BBC’s radio promos for the Beijing Olympics which get underway today. The music has been specially composed by Damon Albarn (with a bit of advice from us), and the whole campaign is designed to fit together with the TV film which was made by Gorillaz.
Altogether there’ll be 5 radio promos, 3 of which won’t be made until the last minute so we can react to the stories and surprises of the games. They’ll be heard on every BBC radio station apart from Radio 3 and 4.
The trails feature the voice of our newest discovery - James Wong. James is actually the manager of a Chinese restaurant in Birmingham who’s never been on air before. We found him, reckoned he’d got a great voice, and put him on air to over 20 million people. All in a day’s work.
